Spring is starting to kick in a little bit up here in the north. I see where our southern friends have even felt the bite of Jack Frost a few times in the last month, so the warmer weather of spring brings a little more kick in their step, as well, I'm sure. One of the best parts of warmer weather surely has to be cooking out. My wife and I have already dragged the grill out of the garage and grilled out a couple of times. I'm not a wizard of the kitchen, but I like to give it a try. I especially like to see if I can replicate something I've had before. I would love to put together some sort of top secret recipes cookbook, so I can wow my family and friends when they come over with some great dishes.
I don't know what it is, but there is something about the taste of something cooked out on the grill. Part of it is the experience. Being outside where the weather is warm and friends and family are around relaxing and enjoying themselves certainly adds to the atmosphere. Face it, the atmosphere does add to the dining experience. Sometimes it even adds to the lightening of the wallet, too, I'm afraid. But, that grill aroma wafting through almost gently tugs at you and teases your palate. That's true wherever you are at, in relation to food. You have that lure at the old fashioned backyard barbecue. You are enticed when you enter the restaurant and get that first whiff of what's cooking. Heck, you even get that in the car when you're driving BY the restaurant, right? Tell the truth, how many times do you drive by a spot, especially when you are hungry and just want to pull in because of what that aroma means? That's when you would really like to have a top secret recipes cookbook, to have what they're having at that eating establishment you are passing by that day.
It would be cool to have something like a top secret recipes cookbook, to try and have some of your favorite dishes right at your fingertips whenever you wanted. Some of that stuff is tough to get your hands on, though. I have a few friends who do an absolute grand chef's job when it comes to cooking out. They should be putting some of their recipes in a cookbook. I'm amazed at some of the great food fests they can put together. Sometimes, the outdoor grilling can be smelled for blocks. Oh, that's another great smell, isn't it? You pull into the driveway after work, get out of the car and can instantly get a taste that someone close by is cooking dinner. It makes you start salivating as you make your way into the house.
Whether you enjoy cooking or whether you simply enjoy eating, food is fun for all. Sure, it satisfies a basic need. But, for most of us it is much more than that. It's a family experience. It's a cultural experience. We all have our own top secret recipes cookbook that we use as part of that experience, too. I don't know about you, but I'm getting hungry.
