The United Kingdom like the REM song says seems to be losing its religion, people just don't seem to bother going to churches anymore. It seems to have been a past time that was very popular during the war. But now for whatever reason it just seems like it has become a bit of a past time. People don't head to churches to worship on a Sunday and even fewer people are deciding to have a full wedding in a church these days. The altar, church candles and hymn books all sit in their places collecting dust as religion seems to be something that is passing the latest generation by, but why?
If you look at other countries like America or Italy there is a deep religious following still, people plan their Sunday's around visiting the church in the morning, reading from the hymn books, lighting the church candles and receiving a blessing at the altar. People just seem to make time for it on a Sunday. Maybe the way the lifestyle has changed in the United Kingdom has altered the way that we look at life. Shops are now open on a Sunday and everyone seems to have something more important to do than attend a church service. It starts to make you wonder whether in a few decades time whether there will be anyone attending church services on a Sunday.
Another strange aspect appears to be that it is only the Christian faith that has dropped off in attendance figures. Followers of other religions like Islam and Sheik are still passionate about their religions. From a personal stand point I was never forced into going to church as a youngster and I've never really felt the need to attend one. It is not a standpoint against Christianity or the religion; as far as I am concerned people can believe whatever they want to, whatever makes them happy and helps them to get through the day. From my point of view though it just doesn't appeal, the altar, the church candles and the hymn books, I don't see how going to church and singing a few songs will make me a better person. How I treat people defines me as a good or bad person, nothing more, nothing less.
So with that being said will the makers of Church candles, prayer and hymn books and altars be unemployed soon? No, there will always be other projects if you don't make church candles then there are always other candles to make, the same goes for books and carpenters.
